The Montauk Lighthouse is a self-funding not for profit entity, relying solely on our wonderful patrons to support our site, tours and operations in Montauk, NY. The Lighthouse Committee of the Montauk Historical Society Is dedicated to the protection, preservation and educational development of this national historic site. Through programs, exhibits, publications and special events, the story of this site will be conveyed to the public.The museum, which is located in the 1860 Keepers house, displays an assortment of many historical documents, and photographs. Our display case contains documents. signed by Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson and is the Congressional authorization, approved by President George Washington in 1792, to construct a lighthouse at Montauk Point.
